What are the worst sunscreens?

The chemicals found in many commercial sunscreens can get into the bloodstream within an hour of applying and remain for up to 3 weeks. Some of the more alarming ingredients are Benzophenone-3, Oxybenzone, Octocrylene, Octisalate, Cylcopentasiloxane, Cyclomethicone, and Avobenzone—most of which cause problems for coral reefs and the environment.

What SPF factor should I use?

Regardless of your age or skin color, you should use a sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher for extended exposure to the sun. SPF 30 allows only about 3% of the sun's rays to reach your skin, which extends the length of time it would take for the sun to redden your skin. Also apply some natural insect repellant to keep the bugs away while you play.

Spending time in the sun increases your risk of skin cancer and early skin again.
